Exercise while on maintenance. As you transition to maintenance, you should be at or near your goal weight. You should notice that you have significantly more energy and your body will start to crave more activity. While you are transitioning to life long healthy living, exercise will be an important part of the future healthy you. Here are some exercises that you can think about doing while you are transitioning to maintenance and on to life long healthy living.

  • Walk/Run 1-3 miles Daily – possibly think about running 2 or 3  5k’s runs a year for fun.
  • Cycling – Bike riding is an excellent cardio activity.
  • Weight Training – if you were doing this on the 4 & 2 plan you can transition this to heavier weights fewer reps.
  • Start chasing your kids or grand-kids around the yard. They will love it.

The key here is to make sure that you are getting your heart rate up for 30 – 45 minutes per day.

Stay active, have fun, be safe, Live Healthy!

We recommend that you contact your healthcare provider before starting and throughout your OPTAVIA weight loss journey, especially if you are taking medications (e.g., diabetes medications, high blood pressure medications, Coumadin (warfarin), lithium, thyroid medications etc.)
Do not use the OPTAVIA Program if you are pregnant. If you have a serious acute or chronic illness (e.g., heart attack, diabetes, cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, anorexia, bulimia, etc.) do not use the OPTAVIA Program until your healthcare provider says you have recovered or that your condition is stabilized. The Optimal Weight 5 & 1 Plan TM is NOT appropriate for teens (13 to 18 years of age), sedentary older adults (65 years and older), nursing mothers, people with gout, some people with diabetes, and those who exercise more than 45 minutes per day. For special medical or dietary needs, refer to our program guides online.
